There are plenty of fishing opportunities here. Ljungskileviken has many shallow bottoms where sea trout search for sandworms, and at the deep edges offshore, larger fish hunt for herring. Additionally, several rivers with sea trout run into the bay. This, combined with the protection Orust provides against Skagerrak, makes the bay a great fishing spot. During the summer, sea trout venture into deeper waters, but mackerel come into the bay instead. If you prefer fishing in a lake, there are good perch waters within walking distance from us. At our facility, there’s both the opportunity to clean and freeze fish, and periodically, our fish smoker is in operation. If you tire of fishing, carve a bark boat, birdwatch, take a swim, or stroll along the beach.

Warmly welcome to a fishing adventure!

Fishing in Ljungskileviken and Equipment

Sea Trout: Sea trout are commonly fished with spinning rods on the west coast, but also with fly rods. Early in the spring, fishing is usually best in the shallows, and in such cases, it’s advantageous to have waders or to fish from a boat. Fishing from our piers is also an option. As the water warms up, sea trout tend to gather in areas with a certain water current, such as points and straits, making it easier to fish from land. The whereabouts of sea trout primarily depend on the water temperature and water level in the rivers. Generally, sea trout tend to disappear from Ljungskileviken in June, only to return at the end of August to migrate up the rivers.

Mackerel: Mackerel arrive on the Bohus Coast in May to spawn and feed. They swim in schools that reach Ljungskileviken in mid-June and stay until September before returning to the North Sea for overwintering in deeper waters. Mackerel hunt for herring shoals, sometimes driving them to the surface, which can make it look like the sea is boiling. Mackerel fishing usually occurs with mackerel rigs from a stationary boat, but they can also be fished with spinning rods from land and from the bay’s piers. We recommend renting a motorboat with a rear motor if you come to fish for mackerel.

Perch: Perch can be fished in one of the farm’s lakes within walking distance from us. Perch can be caught both with spinning rods and by angling, making it a simpler alternative compared to sea trout fishing.

You decide the level of fishing you want to engage in. We provide you with maps and tips, as well as lend out simple spinning rods, nets, and mackerel rigs. Those wishing for more advanced equipment should bring their own. For those who want to supplement their equipment on the way here, we recommend visiting Björns Fiske and Jakt in Stenungsund, which has a wide range of products and knowledgeable staff.

Rules for Fishing around Ljungskileviken

From April 1st to September 30th, it is permitted to fish for sea trout in Bohuslän, and there are several nice fishing spots around its fjords. Remember that the minimum size for sea trout is 45 centimeters, and only 2 fish per angler per day may be kept. The minimum size is set to allow the sea trout to spawn at least once before being caught. Regarding mackerel, there are no restrictions on size or quantity. It is forbidden to fish for cod, haddock, and whiting around Ljungskile as the bay is an important spawning area for these species. Read more about the rules here at the County Administrative Board. Additional advice for you as a fisherman: Never catch more fish than you and your family can eat. It is forbidden for recreational fishermen to sell fish. Immediately kill any caught fish that you intend to keep. Gently release any fish you cannot or do not want to keep, and do not handle them with dry hands, as this damages the fish’s slime layer. Also, if possible, avoid taking the fish out of the water when unhooking them. Show respect for nature. Always leave the fishing spot in the condition you would like to find it! It is our responsibility to leave the opportunities to fish in a living environment as a legacy for future generations.
